January 2021 Wrap Up⛄✨📚

Hey guys!! Happy New Year! Our first month down for 2021! January certainly went by quickly for me. It's been a stressful start to my year. Full disclosure, I might be quiet on my Instagram account every now and then for awhile. My father is currently battling stage 4 heart failure. A bright side is that he's estimated to get released from the hospital this weekend so that's exciting! If you want to keep him in your thoughts, that'd be greatly appreciated. 💜

Moving on, I got a BIG jump on my 2021 reading challenge. I'm like 5 or 6 books ahead of schedule and boy were these books a joy to read. I got this craving to watch the Vampire Academy movie, and then I was like, I miss this series and decided to re-read the whole thing lol. I'm really glad I did because now I have a reason to do an official review for the series, which I've yet to do...shame on me. It's listed as one of my top book series but I didn't ever discuss it. So, I'll have official review posts for all of my books read in January! Woohoo👏

On another note, we are less than two weeks away from....A COURT OF SILVER FLAMES RELEASING!!!! I am beyond excited to dive into Nesta & Cassian's head. I also managed to snag a ticket to Sarah's virtual book tour for the US, so I'll have a post discussing the book and the tour later this month. If you don't follow Sarah or Bloomsbury on IG you are missing out. These teaser posts they're creating are awesome.

Let's dive in...
Official Reviews

The Vampire Academy Series
By: Richelle Mead

Book 1: Vampire Academy⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Vampire Academy:
ONLY A TRUE BEST FRIEND CAN PROTECT YOU FROM YOUR IMMORTAL ENEMIES...

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires - the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger... and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever...

So, I'm writing this years after I actually read this for the first time. I think I can still step into my inner teenage self and write a review worthy of this book. Can I just say, I love Rose. She is everything a book worm teenage girl wants to read. She's angsty and sassy and full of spunk. I just adore her interactions with Dimitri. Don't even get my younger self started about Dimitri. Back in the day he was everything I needed in a book boyfriend. He's one of the OG book boyfriends. Re-reading this book as an adult helped me enjoy this book & series. Christian is probably a favorite of mine now but he wasn't exactly a fav back in the day. If you love vampires and you like a good fighting series then I definitely recommend starting this series. Richelle Mead is a killer author and all her books keep you entertained.

Book 2: Frostbite ⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Frostbite:
WHEN LOVE AND JEALOUSY COLLIDE ON THE SLOPES, WINTER BREAK TURNS DEADLY...

Rose has serious guy trouble. Her gorgeous tutor, Dimitri, has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her, and she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian.

Then a nearby Strigoi attack puts St. Vladimir's on high alert, and the Academy whisks its students away on a mandatory holiday ski trip. But the glittering winter landscape and posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back again the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. Only this time, Rose - and her heart - are in more danger than she ever could have imagined...

ADRIAN!! I need more of him. He is such a catch. Ugh, he's so funny. I loved him the first time I read about him and appreciated him 100x more during my re-read. Him & Rose are so cute. I did enjoy this book. I liked seeing the foreshadowing for things and see how Rose grows. Her mom is entertaining too. I wish the movie series had continued because this would've been great to watch. The fighting evil beings continues and Rose & Lissa keep growing too. Love it. NGL...a certain death did kind of break my heart a little bit. Dimitri and Rose are still fighting their destiny I swear....sigh.

Book 3: Shadow Kiss⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Shadow Kiss:
WHAT IF FOLLOWING HER HEART MEANS ROSE COULD LOSE HER BEST FRIEND FOREVER?

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires - the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

Rose knows it is forbidden to love another guardian. Her best friend, Lissa - the last Dragomir princess - must always come first. Unfortunately, when it comes to gorgeous Dimitri Belikov, some rules are meant to be broken...

Then a strange darkness begins to grow in Rose's mind, and ghostly shadows warn of a terrible evil drawing nearer to the Academy's iron gates. The immortal undead are closing in, and they want vengeance for the lives Rose has stolen. In a heart-stopping battle to rival her worst nightmares, Rose will have to choose between life, love, and the two people who matter most... but will her choice mean that only one can survive?

I LOVED IT! The ending did leave me upset and wanting more...Like rip my heart out why don't you. I knew that it couldn't be true. I was chopping at the bit to for the next book to come out! I love this series it is by far one of my favorites. I could say a lot about this book. It's probably my favorite in the series. Christian is a fav and so is Adrian. I love them even if they don't necessarily like each other. The sass and witty comments from Mead's characters is fabulous. I enjoy this series so much and I still get attached even re-reading it.

Book 4: Blood Promise⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Blood Promise:
Bound by love, but sworn to kill...
The world thought Dimitri was dead. And to a certain extent, he was. But I hadn't been able to forget a conversation he and I had once had. We'd both agreed that we'd rather be dead - truly dead - than walk the world as Strigoi. It was time to honor our words.

Guardian Rose Hathaway's life will never be the same. The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck; a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count.

But only one victim matters... Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?

Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?

Readers who fell in love with Rose, Lissa, and Dimitri won't want to miss Blood Promise, the much-anticipated, epic fourth novel in Richelle Mead's enthralling Vampire Academy series.

So, this book...it's not everything I wanted it to be. I know it's important and I love that Dimitri isn't actually dead. However, it was a more difficult read for me. I loved that Rose got her closure that she needed and that they let her back at school. That was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see Dimka's family. They were so sweet and the fact that they knew about Rose & Dimitri but didn't care was just so wholesome. I just didn't feel as emotionally attached to this book. The ending, however, does leave you craving the next book and I couldn't wait to read it.

Book 5: Spirit Bound⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Spirit Bound:
Salvation has its price . . .
The words stunned Adrian for a moment, but he kept going. "You're lying. What you're describing is impossible. There's no way to save a Strigoi. When they're gone, they're gone. They're dead. Undead. Forever."
Robert's next words weren't directed at Adrian. They were spoken to me. "That which is dead doesn't always stay dead...."

After a long and heartbreaking journey to Siberia, Dimitri’s birthplace, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s—and to her best friend, Lissa Dragomir. It's graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives outside the academy’s cold iron gates to finally begin. But even with the intrigue and excitement of court life looming, Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri. He’s out there, somewhere.

She failed to kill him when she had the chance, and now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and she knows in her heart that he is hunting her. And if Rose won't join him, he won't rest until he has silenced her . . . forever.

But Rose can't forget what she learned on her journey—whispers of a magic too impossible and terrifying to comprehend. A magic inextricably tied to Lissa that could hold the answer to all of Rose's prayers, but not without devastating consequences. Now Rose will have to decide what—and who—matters most to her. And in the end, is true love really worth the price?

After an epic cliff hanger, you find out Dimitri is still alive and now he wants vengeance. Rose just wants to finish up her last few months of school, graduate, and let her relationship with Adrian grow. That's hard to do when your former lover is sending you hate mail. I really liked this book. I liked seeing Rose graduate and them going to court and of course the chaos Rose & Lissa cause. The scheming and disguises and the out of this world once in a lifetime chance to save her one true love. I mean what's not to love? Can Rose do the impossible & bring an undead being back to life? Also, WTF is that ending?????

Book 6: Last Sacrifice⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Last Sacrifice:
They come first.

My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won't give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri's face join Lissa's. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.

The dead could finally have me.

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

WTH?!? The ending of book 5 left me speechless and I could not wait for this book. It was everything I needed. I got my closure and I got to see my babies grow up. I got to see a murder mystery solved. I got to see Rose & her crew defeat fate repeatedly. I got to see happiness and sadness. I got to enjoy a wonderful that is the Vampire Academy. I wish I had more. I want to see their lives as adults. I want to see a certain Queen on the throne. I need more details, but I don't think Mead will write anymore. However, her series Bloodlines has some guest appearances, so I guess that'll have to do. I genuinely adore this series and this book. Talk about a conclusion. I could say so much about it but I really don't want to give anything away. Enjoy the journey and the hints/clues that come up. The twisty ending really keeps you on your toes.

The Bargainer Series
By: Laura Thalassa

Book 1: Rhapsodic ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Rhapsodic:
Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear.

Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want... at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects.

But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment. Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more.

For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken.

If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.

Uhmm, so like can I make a deal with the Bargainer? I read this book 2 years ago and it was great. Well, I LOVED it a second time. I've seen quite a few bookbloggers posting about the series recently and I thought, "hmmm, I think I'll re-read it." I'm so glad I did. The witty banter, sexual tension, and handsome fairies, what's not to love??? Desmond Flynn is everything you want in a dark brooding male. Callie is a siren and she's all about the sass. I do wish we got more insight into her dynamic with Temper, but maybe that'll come in book 2. If you loved Rhysand from ACOTAR, then you will most definitely adore Desmond. I read this book quickly both times and couldn't put it down. I did kinda see the Thief of Souls coming, but that's not a big deal. I'm super excited to start book 2, A Strange Hymm & to venture into more of Thalassa's work.

Book 2: A Strange Hymm ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About A Strange Hymm:
Siren and soulmate to the King of Night, Callypso Lillis survived the clutches of Karnon, the mad king, and his twisted prison. But the nightmare isn’t over. Callie wears the physical reminders of her time as a captive, and mounting evidence suggests the Thief of Souls is still out there.

When a fae celebration thrusts Callie and her mate, Desmond Flynn, into the Kingdom of Flora, they take their investigation with them. But under the bright lights and striking blooms of the realm, they find there are more immediate issues to deal with. No place is more uniquely savage than the great fae halls, and no amount of bargains can save Callie from royal intrigues.

Fairies play dangerous games. Some want love, some want vengeance, some want flesh, and some want things too unspeakable to utter. One thing is for sure: no one is who they appear to be. Not even Des, who only grows more enigmatic with every passing secret.

But the Kingdom of Flora has its own secrets, from bleeding trees to branded slaves and missing guards. Something is stirring in the land of all that grows, and if Callie isn’t careful, it will claim everything and everyone she loves—and her along with it.

Who doesn’t love a dark and twisted ending? If you thought book one was building a great story just wait! Book 2 explodes it. I must say I did see that little twist at the end coming it. It was the only thing that made sense to me. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and can’t wait to start book 3. I’m happy we got some extra Temper on this book too 🤗

The Elite Kings Club Series
By: Amo Jones

Book #4: Malum Part 1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

About Malum Part 1:

“Love is savage, love is blind, love is something they may not find…”
Once upon a time, there was a young girl who lived in a battered trailer, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks.
One day, she fell down The Elite Kings’ rabbit hole. Sucked into a dark vortex of lies, hate, and deceit, and spat out by money, glitz, and power.
There were things this little girl didn’t know, things she was about to find out and secrets that have been kept from her. Those secrets were guarded by the boys that were about to smash her world open and tear it all apart…
He may be a Malum, but she is a Stuprum, born into this world but neglected by the choice of her mother. Her eyes may not glisten with stars, but they roar with fire, and when she finally reaches her peak, it’s that same fire that will burn.

Them.
All.
Down.
My name is Tillie Stuprum, and my story is not like the rest.
Everything she thought she knew is a fabricated version of the truth. I’m Nate Riverside-Malum, the one your girl whispers about to her friends and whose initials are scratched down your back. Her story is not like the rest of them, because her story is dead.

What the holy fudge. This book will rip your heart out and leave you craving for more pain. Wow. Amo you have left me speechless once again. I feel so much for Tillie and Nate. Like why...just why so much pain and suffering. I couldn’t put this book down but found myself having to take a break because the story building is just so intense and complex. I’m amazed at this dark and twisted world Amo has created. I’m so glad I have the next book downloaded because that ending left me in desperate need of more information!!!

The Bishop Brothers Series
By: Allie Winters

Book #2: Marrying the Billionaire

About Marrying the Billionaire:
-Serena-
Marrying the man of your dreams after crushing on him for the last decade should be cause for celebration. So why am I crying alone in the honeymoon suite on my wedding night? Because there’s just one problem - it’s a fake marriage. Purely for appearances as part of a business deal between our fathers’ companies.
But I can’t sit idly by pretending this is only a platonic relationship, especially as sparks begin to fly between us. So what will I have to do to convince my stoic Prince Charming I want him for real? And what will I risk along the way?

-Archer-
The plan is simple - act like a husband in love publicly after I foolishly got myself involved in this fake marriage, and behind closed doors keep things separate. But the longer we continue this charade attending events and staging selfies, the more I’m unsure what's fake and what’s not, especially when things start to heat up in private.
As the successor to my father's billion dollar company, work has been my life. Focusing on my job has never been harder, though, when there's a temptress living in my guest bedroom. What are the chances this business deal of a marriage could turn into the real thing? The last person I ever expected to fall for is… my wife.

I LOVE ARCHER!!! This was such a well written story. Wow. The drama and love in this story was amazing. I could not put it down. I was constantly waiting to see what happens next. Archer and Serena deserve all the happiness in the world and their fathers just can’t seem to let that happen. I won’t give away any spoilers but man did I get salty with a certain CEO. can’t wait to see more of the bishop brothers in book #3!!
