May 2021 Wrap Up ⚘🕮🤍

Where has the time gone?? We're already in June! Time flies I guess. I read through 4 new reads this month. Various authors and all really good stories. I thoroughly enjoyed each one and might've been a little salty with two of their endings, but that's fine...everything is fine. You'll find their reviews below. Happy reading :)

Official Reviews
Dead of Night ⭐⭐⭐½
By: Emily Goodwin
Book 1 in Thorne Hill Series

About Dead of Night:

From bestselling author Emily Goodwin comes the epic start to a sexy and exciting paranormal romance series...

Never trust a vampire.

I might have learned that lesson the hard way. But when I find myself in a vampire-owned bar, I don’t have much of a choice. With vampires still trying to assimilate into mainstream society, I’ve done Lucas King a favor by stopping one of his patrons from draining a human dry in the basement of his bar. A favor he'd prefer to repay in bed than in kind.

Vampires and witches have had more than a jaded history, and when witches start showing up dead in surrounding covens, all signs point to something old and powerful. Something that knows the ways of the witches.

Something--or someone--like Lucas.

What's worse than trusting a vampire? Falling in love with one.

Witches meet supernatural?--I was introduced to this book on TikTok and the author compared it to Dean Winchester & Supernatural...say no more! I did get some supernatural vibes while reading and I definitely enjoyed the sass that came from the main character, Callie. Her family is horrid but I love her best friend and her hot vampire, Lucas. I was intrigued enough to get book 2. Also, to all my romance readers this does contain some entertaining smut 😉😉

Rule of Wolves ⭐⭐⭐½
By: Leigh Bardugo
Book 2 in King of Scars Duology

About Rule of Wolves:

The wolves are circling and a young king will face his greatest challenge in the explosive finale of the instant #1 New York Times-bestselling King of Scars Duology.

The Demon King. As Fjerda's massive army prepares to invade, Nikolai Lantsov will summon every bit of his ingenuity and charm—and even the monster within—to win this fight. But a dark threat looms that cannot be defeated by a young king's gift for the impossible.

The Stormwitch. Zoya Nazyalensky has lost too much to war. She saw her mentor die and her worst enemy resurrected, and she refuses to bury another friend. Now duty demands she embrace her powers to become the weapon her country needs. No matter the cost.

The Queen of Mourning. Deep undercover, Nina Zenik risks discovery and death as she wages war on Fjerda from inside its capital. But her desire for revenge may cost her country its chance at freedom and Nina the chance to heal her grieving heart.

King. General. Spy. Together they must find a way to forge a future in the darkness. Or watch a nation fall.

Applause for the dragon queen--I am speechless. I...I just wow. Great job Leigh. I wasn’t sure where this book was going to but just wow. I loved every bit of this book. I love Nikolai and Zoya. I adored seeing SO MANY characters making appearances. I want more. I want to see what happens with the order of things. I know this is the epic conclusion for the Grishaverse but I hope Leigh comes back someday with more. I need more of the Crows and Ravka and everything else that comes into light in this book ;) KoS had its dim moments and I’ll admit I had a few in Rule of Wolves but the last 25% of this book made up for the handful of slower moments. The scheming and mischief and sass was everything I would’ve wanted in last book of this series or legacy when you tie in all the other characters. Thank you for this wonderful and at times heart wrenching novel.

Book 1--King of Scars Review: March Wrap Up

This is War ⭐⭐⭐
By: Kennedy Fox
Book 1 in Checkmate Series

About This is War:

She hates him.
He loves getting under her skin.

Travis King is the worst kind of a**hole.
He taunts me for being a good girl and mocks my high standards.
He’s cruel, crass, and has enough confidence to last two lifetimes.
And I hate him.

It wouldn’t matter so much if he were avoidable.
But considering he’s my older brother’s best friend and roommate, I see him more than I’d ever want to. His sculpted abs and gorgeous eyes are wasted on such an arrogant man, which makes me hate him even more.

Even though I’ve had a crush on him since I was ten, the feelings weren’t mutual and he’s made that very clear. He’s always loved getting under my skin and one night against my better judgment, I let him in my bed. I’ve succumbed to his manw**re ways, but that doesn’t change a thing.

Because the King is about to get played at his own game—and lose.

Checkmate, King.

This is book 1 in the Travis & Viola duet and must be read first. Suggested for mature readers only.

It's been awhile since I found a book & finished it in 24ish hours. But this book did it. I downloaded it on a whim because it was free. I'm so glad I did. I devoured this book and can't wait to start the second one. I didn't expect this enemies to lovers book to capture my attention so fully, but there I was at 3AM still reading this book. Travis is Viola's grade school crush until he breaks her heart & she loathes him for it. Years later, she stuck staying at her brother's shared house with Travis for two weeks. Tension rises and so does their denied interest in each other. The ended of this book straight up ticked me off. I'm going to need an explanation in book 2 or I'll be salty. If you like enemies to lovers, my brother's best friend romance stories then this book is right up your alley.

The Crown of Gilded Bones ⭐⭐⭐½
By: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Book 3 in Blood & Ash Series

About The Crown of Gilded Bones:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her Blood and Ash series…

She's been the victim and the survivor…

Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she’s found with Prince Casteel. She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers. It’s a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of. Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed. The true ruler of Atlantia. She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her. By right the crown and the kingdom are hers.

The enemy and the warrior…

Poppy has only ever wanted to control her own life, not the lives of others, but now she must choose to either forsake her birthright or seize the gilded crown and become the Queen of Flesh and Fire. But as the kingdoms’ dark sins and blood-drenched secrets finally unravel, a long-forgotten power rises to pose a genuine threat. And they will stop at nothing to ensure that the crown never sits upon Poppy’s head.

A lover and heartmate…

But the greatest threat to them and to Atlantia is what awaits in the far west, where the Queen of Blood and Ash has her own plans, ones she has waited hundreds of years to carry out. Poppy and Casteel must consider the impossible—travel to the Lands of the Gods and wake the King himself. And as shocking secrets and the harshest betrayals come to light, and enemies emerge to threaten everything Poppy and Casteel have fought for, they will discover just how far they are willing to go for their people—and each other.

And now she will become Queen…

Cliff hanger alert!!!--Gahhhh, it’s been awhile since I’ve read a book that left me peeved. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited for the next book and I’m sad I have to wait but c'mon!!! The last like 5 chapter are rough beware. I was very unhappy and also happy because well Poppy is going to pop off. I really enjoyed this book. Again, Casteel is awesome and I loved getting to see him and Poppy as husband and wife (and more ;)). Getting to see the wolves and hear more about the gods was also fun! I will say there are some dull parts but all in all I was entertained the majority of the book.
