Introducing -- Moody Two Shoes: Shadow & Bone Review

Happy new year everyone! To start off 2023, I am trying something new. I'm opening the blog for guest writers to post their thoughts on books and other bookish topics. The idea came from a request from the IG account, moody_two_shoes. Their information will be further down in their post. I love the idea of sharing my space with like-minded bookworms. It's been a challenge for me to come onto the blog to post the same content every month...probably noticeable since I did not blog for most of 2022. I'll share more about what I was up to in 2022 in a later post, so without further ado, please give a warm reading welcome to Moody Two Shoes & their review of Leigh Bardugo's Shadow & Bone trilogy.

The Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo: A Review

If you're looking for an immersive, action-packed fantasy series to sink your teeth into, look no further than Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone trilogy. Set in a war-torn world of Orcs, humans, and magical creatures, the books follow Alina Starkov, a young woman who discovers she has the power to summon light—a power that could be the key to defeating the forces of darkness that threaten her world.

In the first book in the series, Shadow and Bone, we see Alina's journey from orphaned mapmaker's apprentice to the most powerful person in the world of Grisha is both thrilling and heartwrenching. As a child, she is taken in by an orphanage after her parents are killed in a rock slide. There, she meets Mal, a young boy who quickly becomes her best friend. They are separated when they are both drafted into the army, and Alina is left to fight for her life on the frontlines. However, she soon discovers that she has the power to control light and shadow, and she is whisked away to become a student at the elite school for Grisha.

But as her power grows, so too does the danger that surrounds her. And when dark forces threaten to destroy everything she holds dear, Alina must find the strength to save her friends and stop the coming war. Along the way, she learns that love can be both a blessing and a curse, and that even the most ordinary people are capable of greatness. Alina's journey is one that will stay with readers long after they turn the final page. The books are expertly paced, full of unexpected twists and turns, and populated with a diverse cast of fascinating characters. I especially enjoy the way that author Leigh Bardugo weaves magic and mythology into the stories.

If you liked the first book in the Grisha Trilogy, Shadow and Bone, then you'll definitely want to continue reading the story. The next two books, Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising, follow Alina's journey as she tries to stop the Darkling, a powerful sorcerer who wants to harness her power. In these books, you'll get to see more of the magical world that Bardugo has created, as well as meet new and interesting characters. I highly recommend reading these books if you're looking for an enjoyable and exciting read.

If you're looking for an exciting fantasy series to get lost in, I highly recommend Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone trilogy. I have always loved fantasy stories, and so when I heard about Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone trilogy, I knew that I had to read it. I was not disappointed. The world that Bardugo has created is rich and detailed, and her characters are both complex and compelling. I particularly enjoyed the way that she had woven together elements of Eastern European mythology with her own unique vision. The result is a truly original fantasy series that I will be sure to revisit again in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone trilogy! I loved the world she created, and the characters were so well-developed. What I loved most about the Shadow and Bone trilogy was its engaging story. From the very first book, I was hooked and eager to find out what happened next. The story of the Shadow and Bone trilogy was rich and complex, with a huge cast of intriguing characters. My favorite characters in this story were Alina Starkov and the Darkling. Alina is the heroine of the story, and I loved watching her grow from a scared orphan into a powerful magic user. The Darkling is the villain, but he's also one of the most magnetic and fascinating characters in the trilogy. I loved reading about his complicated backstory and motivations, and I was rooting for him even as he was doing terrible things. The other characters in the trilogy are also well-developed and interesting, but Alina and the Darkling are my favorites. Every time I turned the page, I discovered something new that pulled me deeper into the world of the Grisha. And even though I knew how the trilogy would end, I still couldn't put the books down until I reached the final page.

When I first started reading the Shadow and Bone trilogy, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew that it was a fantasy series, but I hadn't read anything by Leigh Bardugo before. I was pleasantly surprised by the world that she created. It was rich and detailed, with an interesting cast of characters. I particularly enjoyed the secondary characters that she created. They added depth and complexity to the story, and I found myself rooting for them just as much as the main characters.

Another part of the trilogy I really enjoyed was the world that Leigh Bardugo created in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, the world of the Grisha. I loved how complex and detailed it was, and how there were so many different cultures and places to explore. I also thought the magic system was really interesting and unique. I can't wait to read more books set in this world, and I hope we get to see more of Alina's story in future books. Thanks for creating such a great world!
